Slush Puppy

Caught this moment by chance, walking along the seafront at Weston Super Mare. It was a warm day and I think the dog fancied a slush puppy.

Whenever I start to get frustrated with my photography abilities (or lack of them) and have a run of poor sessions, I return to one of my favourite places to try to bring some balance back to my approach.

I had gone along in the hope of capturing a summer’s sunset, but in the build-up was drawn to the dark clouds behind the lighthouse.  I had also wanted to try to isolate the top of the structure in an image, as part of my plans to do a project featuring just the tops of buildings.

I visited London earlier this week to attend a small exhibition of street photography in Paternoster Square, just next to St Pauls Catherdral (the restaurant where they film First Dates is in the square).  Whilst there, I treated myself to a couple of hours wandering round the Tate Modern.  During my time there, I caught this quiet moment being taken by another visitor.

Street Art

Upfest is a street art festival held annually in Bristol and it has become one of the biggest gatherings of street artists there is. It’s a real treat for photographers, with so much to shoot. I selected this image from the many that I took, as I love the combination of the artist’s tattoos, the artwork she is preparing and the image she is working from.

Birds on a Wire

Sometimes the simplest of images bring the greatest of pleasures.

I was sat the other evening doing a bit of mulling, I got to thinking that I am too restrained with my camera. In simple terms, I don’t take enough pictures. I tend to wait and allocate time to photography, almost staging it, rather than shooting from the hip. So I intend to relax and take more pictures, more frequently and see what happens.

So this evening as I left home, I noticed these three birds sat on the telephone wire outside our home. Grabbed the camera and shot.

South West

A glorious late summer’s afternoon on the beach at Beer, Devon. No better place in the world than on an English beach on a hot summer’s day, with the expectation of fish and chips to come.

My favourite location, the Low Lighthouse, Burnham-on-Sea. A pretty moody evening with the high tide on its way out. Lots of different textures and patterns in the sky, sea and sand.

The final image from my day in Birmingham. The famous Selfridges building at the even more famous Bullring. I tried to get a different angle, combined with some decent cloud to create an alien-like impression of the exterior of the store.

The second shot from my day in Birmingham. The Grand Central station building is partially clad in a reflective metal surface with an eye-shaped screen. With the tram passing by, the colours in the reflection were just too good to miss.

I saw this young woman earlier in the day when I was walking through Birmingham city centre and thought at the time that I wished I had grabbed a shot of her. As luck would have it, when I was walking back to the car park, I spotted her with a group of friends sat outside a coffee shop. A quick request to take a picture was met with giggles all round and a great shot of her in her curlers.
